Many thanks for any help anyone is able to provide. Sorry to go on for so long but I'm stumped now, not sure what else I can try. I am only using the free version of Winxdvd at the minute and I think I read somewhere that the free version doesn't use all the CPU cores (although I can't find that again now) I have no problem in coughing up for a license for it if it's going to solve the problem, but if it's going to be just as slow as Handbrake it'd just be a waste of money. I've restarted both the computer and the NAS, with no improvement.Ĥ) Tried a different piece of software this morning (Winxdvd ripper) and even that is only copying at 60fps or so which, compared with the speeds I was getting from Handbrake before, is still quite slow in my nsidering the website says Winxdvd will rip an entire film in 5 mins, this morning's trial was taking 5 mins to rip a 5 min section of a disk. Plus I also tried a rip to a local hard drive to make sure it wasn't network issues, and Handbrake is just as slow ripping locally. So, I'm happy to take that as meaning there's no issue with my disk drive.ģ) Checked the communication between computer and NAS and transfer speeds are quick as they have ever been. I was in the middle of ripping Star Trek Voyager when the problem started, so I changed disks and tried Friends instead) I'm not sure why I thought that would work either, but I was trying to count everything out.Ģ) Ripped a different type of disk - did an audio rip in a different piece of software and that worked no problem, fast as ever. I've also tried some basic troubleshooting to try and find the problem:-ġ) Tried a different disk in Handbrake (i.e. I've upgraded to the newest version of Handbrake, with no improvement. Nothing had changed in terms of hardware or software configuration of my computer to explain the sudden drop. The fps has dropped down to something ridiculous like between 8-22fps, and each episode is taking about 45mins to an hour to rip. Now, in the last few days, it has become really slow for no discernible reason. Up until very recently it has been averaging between 90-120fps when ripping, and each 40-odd minute TV episode has taken about 8mins to rip. But finally its still much faster than using VLC as with VLC you waste much time with forced and double subtitles.I have been using Handbrake for about 3 months or so now to copy my DVD collection to my NAS drive. The read speed is everytime under 100 MB/s although I'm using a Samsung NVMe 970 Pro. I do not know why but Subtitle Edit produces massive load on the SSD. If you have enough RAM it is useful to create a RAM disc for subtitle edit and the mkv file. So its really important to move the file to the PC first. it takes seconds to display the result as Subtitle Edit uses a local cacheĭoing the same steps through the 10G NAS its super slow. open the MKV again and select the next subtitle determine the subtitle type by scrolling fast through the first 50 lines (hold down arrow key):ī) if it contains only several lines (up to 100) its forcedĬ) if the first three lines contain "Hello I'm xxx and I'm the directory/actor/blabla/" its a comment it takes some time to display the result But you need a good cpu and ssd to make it as fast as possible. Many discs later (^^) I can suggest to use Subtitle Edit. Usually I spot the SDH track pretty soon but there's still no way to do this automatically. In 2019 I'm still using VLC to play the largest m2ts on the BD and check the subs manually.
